To comprehensively review the progress of teaching and research throughout the year and further promote high-quality development in basic English education, the Annual Summary and Exchange Meeting of the Basic English Education Research Center was successfully held on December 22, 2025, in the Party Member Activity Room on the third floor of Building 2.
The event was hosted by the Basic English Education Research Center. Attendees included Dean Yuan Xiaolu and Vice Dean Li Yan of the School of English, Teacher Yan Tao from the School of Education, as well as members from each research team. The meeting was chaired by Professor Zhang Xiaohui.
During the meeting, team leaders presented summaries of their research achievements over the past year and outlined their future plans. The presentations covered a range of key and emerging topics, such as curriculum reform, AI-driven innovation, and cultural literacy through language education.
Professor Zhang Xiaohui’s team explored the integration of language and subject content across primary, secondary, and tertiary education. Relying on MOOC platforms and a summer teaching design workshop, the team produced a series of high-quality teaching plans and instructional videos, successfully completing a university-level teaching reform project.
Professor Li Ran’s team focused on the development of the “English to Tell China’s Story” AI-powered intelligent agent and knowledge base. The project features adaptive AI tutors for different educational levels and has created model “dual-teacher classroom” cases, advancing innovative models in digital English education.
Professor Li Xianhua’s team concentrated on the integration of AI-driven resource ecosystems and ideological-political education in English curricula. Their future plans include publishing a digital textbook, applying for high-level teaching reform projects, and conducting training aligned with national teacher skills competitions to develop a comprehensive teaching-resource-evaluation system.
Professor Jiang Chunlan’s team adopted a national cultural security perspective, establishing a four-pronged approach of research, training, practice, and competition. The team conducted field research in rural schools, guided pre-service teacher internships, and participated in academic conferences and research projects. Team members also received awards including a bronze medal and an Excellent Instructor Award in student competitions.
In the open discussion session, faculty members engaged in in-depth exchanges on shared challenges, research methodologies, and strategies for practical application of research outcomes, fostering a collaborative and enthusiastic atmosphere.
In her concluding remarks, Vice Dean Li Yan highly affirmed the achievements of each research team, encouraging further refinement of research focus, stronger collaboration, and enhanced research quality and impact. Dean Yuan Xiaolu emphasized that the Center has played an active role in promoting both research innovation and teaching reform. She expressed hope that the Center would continue to deepen the connection between basic and higher education, integrate theory with classroom practice, and produce more replicable and impactful research outcomes to support the sustainable development of the School.
The successful convening of this meeting not only provided a comprehensive review of the Center’s annual work but also clarified the direction for the next stage of research, strengthening team cohesion and stimulating further momentum in teaching and research innovation.
