News Flash | Teacher Teams from the School of English at Our University Win Second Prizes in the 2025 FLTRP-Guocai Cup “Understanding Contemporary China” Shaanxi Foreign Language Competence Competition (Teachers’ Group)
Updated: 2025-11-06

Recently, the final of the 2025 FLTRP-Guocai Cup “Understanding Contemporary China” Shaanxi Foreign Language Competence Competition (Teachers’ Group) concluded successfully at Xingqing Campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University. After fierce competitions in the university selection and provincial semi-finals, two teacher teams from School of English stood out brilliantly. One team, composed of Sun Feiran, Zhang Wanchen, Yin Haixia, Zhang Juan, and Liu Wei from the College English Center, won the Second Prize in the College English Group. The other team, consisting of Mo Liya, Wang Wei and Luo Fei from the First Department of English, claimed the Second Prize in the English Major Group. Their remarkable achievements not only brought honor to themselves and the teams but also fully demonstrated the outstanding results of the foreign language teaching reform at our university, adding luster to the institution.

As an authoritative competition integrated into the FLTRP “Star Teacher” Competition system and consecutively included in the “National University Teachers’ Teaching Development Index” by the Chinese Association of Higher Education, the 2025 FLTRP-Guocai Cup “Understanding Contemporary China” Shaanxi Foreign Language Competence Competition (Teachers’ Group) takes “Effective Use of Foreign Language Textbooks: Narrating China, Communicating with the World” as its core theme. It focuses on three major goals: implementing talent cultivation objectives, improving teaching effectiveness, and innovating teaching approaches. The competition aims to guide college foreign language teachers to deeply explore the educational value of textbooks, enhance students’ cultural confidence and international communication competence, and promote the in-depth integration of digital and intelligent technologies with teaching.

Since the launch of the competition, the leading group of the School of English has attached great importance to it. Taking the lead in overall planning of the preparation work, the school leaders conducted in-depth investigations into various departments to understand teachers’ willingness to participate and their preparation needs. They also invited external experts to provide on-site guidance and coordinated the inclination of teaching resources (such as supporting materials for the “Understanding Contemporary China” textbook series and access rights to digital and intelligent teaching platforms) to the teams. In response to the deployment requirements, all departments established participating teams with both teaching experience and innovative capabilities through a combination of internal selection and voluntary registration. Immediately after their formation, the teams formulated phased preparation plans, refined division of labor, and clarified key milestones. With efficient collaborative execution, they launched intensive preparation efforts, forming a preparation pattern characterized by “school-level overall planning, departmental linkage, and team-driven implementation.” In the future, teachers of the two teams promote the experience gained from the competition and teaching practice into daily teaching. We also call on all teachers in the school to take the award-winning teams as examples, devote themselves to front-line teaching, focus on the essence of education, actively explore innovative teaching paths under the background of digital and intelligent integration,

The two teams' second prizes in this competition are not only the result of their dedicated research on teaching and courage in innovative practice but also a vivid reflection of our university’s long-term emphasis on foreign language teaching reform and support for teachers’ professional development.
