Recently, the 2024 FLTRP Star Teacher Contest came to a successful close. The participating team formed by Sun Feiran, Yu Jing, Yin Haixia, Zhang Lu, and Zhang Juan, as well as the team formed by Zhang Jie, Zhang Qian, Cheng Xinyi, and Ren Fang from the School of English Language and Culture (SELC), both won first prizes in the national semi-finals for the College English group and the English Major group, respectively. In this contest, they competed with 638 teams from across the country and ultimately achieved remarkable results, demonstrating their exceptional teaching abilities and innovative teaching concepts.
The theme of this contest is “Effective Use of Foreign Language Textbooks: Digital-Intelligence Integration and Innovative Education”. Since the release of the contest regulations in April this year, SELC actively organized participating teams and prepared for the contest. During the preparation process, the team members worked together and constantly refined and optimized their teaching designs and teaching content. Based on the Production-Oriented Approach (POA) proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang from Beijing Foreign Studies University, they delved deeply into the textbook content, crafting authentic and effective communicative scenarios, as well as enabling activities that are driven by the actual learning situations, to motivate and facilitate students’ language output. They also utilized evaluation methods such as AI digital evaluation and Teacher-Student Collaborative Assessment (TSCA) to verify the teaching effectiveness. Ultimately, their teaching designs and classroom recordings received high praise and recognition from the judges.
The FLTRP Star Teacher Contest, initiated in 2013, is a large-scale public welfare event for foreign language teachers in universities and colleges across the country.
