As the new semester dawns, a new chapter unfolds. To set clear goals for the new academic year and ensure the smooth development of all work for this semester, the School of English Language and Culture (SELC) convened a work meeting for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year on the morning of August 29th. The meeting reviewed and summarized the work done during the summer vacation, arranged the preparation work for the start of the semester and the work for this semester, aiming to build momentum, make a good start, and set a solid foundation for the new academic year. The main agenda of the meeting revolved around the arrangements and implementation of discipline construction, specialty construction, curriculum construction, school tradition construction, and freshmen orientation. Members of the school’s leadership team and some administrative staff attended the meeting.
At the beginning, the leaders of each department briefly summarized their work during the summer vacation and arranged the work for the new semester. Zhang Rui, the deputy dean of SELC, mainly reported on the completion of teaching preparation during the summer vacation and proposed requirements for the selection of students for the Talent Class and the Excellence Class in the new semester. Li Yan reported on the selection of teachers for the postgraduate entrance examination class and the arrangement of college English graded teaching. Zhang Ying reported on the application of scientific research projects, the participation of the short video competition of the popular science base and the docent competition. Jiang Xiaojun reported on the arrangements for Students’ Rural Social Practice during the summer vacation, counselor work, freshmen orientation, and the reception work for upperclassmen returning to school. Fang Xin reported on the preparation of the 3nd Forum on International Communication and Foreign Language Development.
The dean arranged and deployed the teaching preparations for the new semester, Modern Industry School, student management, and scientific research project application during the meeting. He urged all faculty and staff to recognize the significance of the start-of-semester work, strengthen their sense of responsibility, and give full play to the subjective initiative to improve the quality and efficiency of the school work. He also emphasized that all faculty and staff should overcome difficulties and ensure that all tasks are completed in advance and to a high quality, thereby guaranteeing a safe, orderly, and smooth commencement of the semester.
