Prof. Yuan specializes in and engages himself in Applied Linguistics, Translation Studies and English Language Education. He obtained his Bachelor degree of Arts from Xi’an International Studies University in 1984. From 2002 to 2004, he pursued further studies in English Language and Literature at Xi’an International Studies University and then certificated his postgraduate educational background.
He is now the Dean of School of English Language and Culture at Xi’an Fanyi University, and also serves as corresponding evaluation expert of The National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), executive Director of The Chinese Society of Asian and African Studies (CSAAS) , Vice President of Shaanxi Translators Association, executive Director of Shaanxi College English Teaching Steering Committee, Member of Xi’an International Language Environment Construction Committee, vice director of TESOL Northwest regional expert committee and also the China Education Consultant of Europe-Asia Center.
Prof. Yuan has consistently focused on theoretical research in English language teaching, research in translation and practice, and teacher development. He has accomplished the Project of National Social Science Fund, Shaanxi Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Project, Philosophy and Social Science Project of Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, College English Teaching Reform Project of the Ministry of Education, etc., and he has participated in many research projects at all levels. His articles have appeared in the Journals Indexed in CSSCI and PKU Core for more than 40 times, and these research findings have had a significant impact in the relevant fields, with high download and citation rates. His translated works includes Ten Chinese Classic Tragedies,Biographies of Shaanxi Historical Celebrities, 100 Cases of Precise Poverty Alleviation in China. At the same time, he has presided over the compilation of 13 types of textbooks, which have been widely adopted in colleges and universities within the province.
Prof. Yuan emphasizes the cultivation of outstanding students and has coached many students to repeated success in provincial and national competitions. He has successively received The Second Place of 14th and 15th Shaanxi Province Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievements Award. He has been honored as “Outstanding Teacher” and “Teacher with Four Qualifications”. His main courses include Translation Basics, Business English for MBA, and Introductory Course for Freshmen, etc.
